The story focuses on Shibasaki and her new-found friend Hikaru Asahina. They dated informally for a while with books and libraries as their mutual interests. Meanwhile, the other Hikaru (Tezuka) is being encouraged by his brother (Satoshi) to join the Library Affairs Research committee. The plot thickens as Iku becomes involved in a crime of unjust book burning. Looks like the war on “information control” will turn for the worse with a new group messing up the other two.

Kotoko thus enters a new life as a university student. She begins her day by putting on the best clothes, plus make-up and pearl necklace. Nao hardly noticed of course, and told her not to follow him around, as if he’d already forgotten about their kiss. Kotoko, on the other hand, had nothing but dreams about that kiss, replaying it in her head over and over, too excited and happy that she had to tell it to someone, and unfortunately, she chose her best friends who just loved to gossip. Well, they actually started believing there’s a something between Kotoko and Nao, but that was before they met Yuuko Matsumoto.

Kei and Hikari attended a classy birthday party of a wealthy and spoiled brat named Yahiro Saiga. Yahiro took immediate notice of Kei’s subtle fondness for Hikari, and did everything to make Hikari notice it herself. Hikari didn’t believe it at first, well, until she notices Kei’s little gestures of possessiveness. Unfortunately, she is not “yet” ready for love, for all she’s been doing and living for right now is to beat Kei and become number one.
