You just said the words you should never say…”

Almost 11 years after the last TV Series of the franchise “Slayers”, Lina Inverse and Gourry Gabriev are back once again in search of more treasures, more magic spells and more nations to destroy. The show is entitled “Slayers Revolution”, and listening to Megumi Hayashibara’s high-pitched voice sure does bring back a lot of childhood memories.

Lina and Gourry reunite with Amelia and Zelgadis while they attempt to sink a pirate ship brimming with gold and jewels. Amelia was accompanied by a man named Weiser Flayon, a resident of the country Luvinagard. The large battle fleets that came with Weiser helped Lina defeat the pirates, but her small ship was also destroyed in the process.

Safely on land, Weiser revealed his true plans and arrested Lina for being suspected of being Lina Inverse. A large army surrounded them but the four managed to shake them off until they reached the end of the village. Waiting for them at the end, however, was a large tank made out of a tortoise’s shape. During the battle, the Lina-Amelia combo made the tank spin out of control, destroying everything around it. Out of nowhere, a tiny creature cast a very powerful spell called Dragon Slave and crushed the tank into pieces, taking the rest of the village crumbling with it. Lina was mad that someone else knew her spell and took the stage from her.

Lina later learned about the actual charges against her, and she was determined to prove her innocence. According to Weiser, the culprit seems to be after the magical tanks of their country, and in order for Lina to catch the one responsible for this mess, she had to visit the tank which is most likely the next target. The tiny creature reappears, but this time, Lina chased after it. Who is this tiny creature? And why is he causing rampage all over Luvingard as if he is Lina Inverse?

Rating: ★★★★★

I had to wait for episode 2 before writing a review about this show because, honestly, the first episode didn’t quite make an impression to me. Sure, the major characters have been missed, specially the reckless spell-throwing and ass-kicking tsundere Lina Inverse, but it was only after seeing episode two that I went Yay! This is indeed the series I loved in the 90s, and I was glad that not much has changed (I’m pertaining to animation and seiyuu). I’m looking forward to new adventures and I hope there won’t be too many references in the past series, because I have already forgotten them!
