“An idiot shouldn’t go imitating another idiot, you idiot!”
The Media Improvement Act was passed on in 2012 (Seika era). Using the excuse of protecting human rights and preventing the youths from negative influences of media, an oppression of the freedom of expression is initiated through a special military body. Library Freedom Act is then introduced in order to fight against the Media Improvement Act. Libraries became self-governing bodies that stand against the Federal Government, through the assistance of the Library Corps. The confrontation between both parties intensified. 30 years later, the situation turned into a full-scale armed conflict.
Iku Kasahara joined the Library Defense Force after being rescued by a mysterious member of the Kantou Library Corps. “That person is extremely cool, wonderful, awesome, and dependable. That is why I too, would like to protect books, just like that person,” she says during her initial interview. Iku regards this man as her prince charming, and she swore to herself that she will not give up, and one day, when she meets him again, she will tell him “I followed your footsteps here!” But big words like that didn’t impress Lieutenant Atsushi Doujo. Despite his pitiful 165cm height, he looked down to Iku like she didn’t belong in the force. He was hard on her during training, and it didn’t help that her friend and roommate, Asako Shibasaki, is betraying her by liking the “Chibi” officer.
And so Iku’s life as protector of books begins.
***Komaki-kun is so cool. I like his design the most (so far), but I wish he also had a bit of Atsushi’s rudeness. He is sort-of overshadowed by Chibi-chan’s presence, especially when the two stand side by side. Anyway, I have a feeling there is more to Komaki-kun than meets the eye.
Library war is ♥. I like the concept; protecting freedom-of-speech with a sprinkle of comedy and love here and there, though I was thinking, If I read the novel first I know I will be bored to death. This kind of story indeed needs characters in motion.
OP and ED themes are kick-ass awesome as well. I love Base Ball Bear! (though this is actually the first time I’ve heard them :p). Stand by for their release of the single “Changes” on May 2008!
Everything else considered, Library War is second in my favorite list of Anime shows this season.
